Your Askey RTA9227W router protects your home network by limiting incoming connections from the internet. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock some of those connections like when you want to create a direct connection for gaming, use a specific application, or set up a new device on your network. This process is called forwarding or opening a port. In your Askey RTA9227W router you many need to open a port, which means assigning a port number or set of port numbers to a specific IP address. This routes the incoming data to the correct device on your network.

The following steps will show you how to open ports on the Askey RTA9227W router:

  1. Set up a static IP address on the device or computer you are forwarding these ports to.
  2. Go ahead and log in to your Askey RTA9227W router.
  3. In your Askey RTA9227W router, navigate to the Games & Applications section.
    • Find the Settings tab located near the left of the screen and click on it.
    • Click on the Games & Applications tab at the left of the screen.
  4. Go ahead and create a Games & Applications entry.

Step 1 - Setup A Static IP Address

In order to ensure that your ports remain open in your device even after it reboots, it is important to set up a static IP address in your device.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2 - Login To Your Askey Router

The Askey RTA9227W router uses a web interface to display router settings. In order to login to the Askey RTA9227W router you need to use a web browser.

Open your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. If you are already in a browser window, go ahead and open up a new tab.

Find the address bar in your browser window. This is usually found at the top of the page, like in the image below.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The default IP address for the Askey RTA9227W router is: 192.168.15.1

Once you have entered your router's IP address in the address bar go ahead and click the enter button on your keyboard. You should see a box like the one shown below.

To login, enter the username and password for the Askey RTA9227Ws. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

Once you enter your username and password, click the Login button.

Step 3 - Find The Port Forwarding Section

After successfully logging in to your Askey RTA9227W router you should see the router's home page on your screen. Find the Games & Applications section of your router.

You should now be on a page called Games & Applications.

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

  • TCP Ports: 3074
  • UDP Ports: 3074

  1. Choose the Game or Application from the drop down menu that you want to forward ports for.
  2. Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the IP Address box. It is possible to forward a port to the IP address of your computer or to the IP address of a specific device on your internal network.
  3. Click the Save button to apply these changes when you are completely finished.
