A iiNet Budii Lite router contains a basic firewall to help protect your home network. A Firewall blocks incoming connections by nature. Sometimes you need to unblock some of these connections so you can run a game or application. This is called opening a port or port forwarding. Port forwarding is literally forwarding a port from the internet to your home network.

In order to open ports in your iiNet Budii Lite router, you need to:

  1. Go ahead and set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding these ports to.
  2. Login to your iiNet Budii Lite router.
  3. In your iiNet Budii Lite router, navigate to the Port Forwarding section.
    • Click the Advanced Settings tab, which is at the top of the screen.
    • Click the Port Forwarding tab at the left of the screen.
  4. Create a Port Forwarding entry.

Step 1

If you want to ensure that your ports remain open even after your device reboots, set up a static IP address in the device that you are opening a port for.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

Log in to your iiNet Budii Lite router. To log in you will need to use a web browser since the iiNet Budii Lite uses a web interface to access router configurations.

Open up whichever internet browser that you are comfortable with. If you are not sure which one to use, then go ahead and open Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

To help with confusion, we have simplified this step for you with this link: Login to your Budii Lite Router

Once you have opened a web browser, find the address bar which is usually located at the top of the screen. The image below shows an example of this.

The iiNet Budii Lite router's default IP address is: 10.1.1.1

Once you have finished entering your router's IP address into the address bar, click the enter button on your keyboard. A box similar to the one below should appear.

Step 4

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.

  1. Put a check in the box labeled Enable.

  2. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Description box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.

  3. Choose your internet connection from the WAN Interface drop-down box.

  4. Enter the port you want to forward in to both the Inbound Port and Private Port boxes.

  5. Use the Type dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. If your router has the option of Both, then choose that. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have Both, then you have to create two entries.

  6. Go ahead and enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Private IP Address box. It is possible for this to be either the IP address of your computer or of any other device on your network that you want ports forwarded to.

  7. To apply these changes, remember to click the Save Settings button at the top of the page when you are completely finished.

Test If Your Ports Are Open

Finally, I strongly recommend testing to see if you forwarded the iiNet Budii Lite ports correctly. To do this you can use our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. Open Port Checker is the only online port checking tool that has Guaranteed Results.
