Basic - Setup Home > Basic > Setup Configure basic features of the SBG6580 for the connection to your Internet service provider (ISP). Primary Mode Gateway Mode Bridged Routed Help Gateway Mode: Controls the mode that the device operates in. When set to routed, the LAN devices are assigned a private IP address and the traffic from these devices is NAPT'd. When set to bridged, the LAN devices get public IP addresses assigned by the headend and the traffic is bridged. NAPT Mode: Each local area network (LAN) is given one Internet Address. The Gateway has the ability to share this one address with all of the devices on the LAN. This function is called Network Address and Port Translation. If this function is desired (the typical setting), then NAPT needs to be enabled. Primary Network Only Mode Bridged Routed Help Primary Network Only Mode: Controls the mode that the primary network (consisting of Ethernet, USB, MoCA and Primary SSID) operates in. When set to routed, the LAN devices connected to the primary network are assigned a private IP address and the traffic from these devices is NAPT'd. When set to bridged, the LAN devices get public IP addresses assigned by the headend and the traffic from the primary network is bridged. This control is active only if the Gateway Mode is set to routed. Changes may require a reboot to take effect. Network Configuration Network Configuration Need to remove from back-end --> LAN IP Address 192.168.0.1 Help This is the IP address for the Gateway on the local network (LAN). MAC Address Need to remove from back-end --> MAC Address Help LAN MAC Address: Every network interface has a MAC address that is globally unique to that device. The LAN MAC Address is the gateway’s unique address on the home network. WAN IP Address Help WAN IP Address: Like all devices on the Internet, the gateway has an IP address on the Internet. This address is assigned by the cable company. MAC Address Help WAN MAC Address: Every network interface has a MAC address that is globally unique to that device. The WAN MAC Address is the gateway's unique address on the cable company's network. Duration D: 01 H: 00 M: 00 S: 00 Help WAN Duration: The length of time that the cable system lends the gateway an Internet address. Before this time expires, the gateway will ask that the time be reset. Expires Fri Apr 01 05:51:28 2016 Help WAN Expires: The date and time when the cable system can reuse the Internet address that it loaned the gateway. Before this time is reached, the gateway will ask that the time be reset, so this date and time will periodically change and never be reached. IPv4 DNS Servers Help WAN IPv4 DNS Servers: These are the addresses of the servers that convert web site names into Internet addresses. These are assigned by the cable company. Help Release WAN Lease: This button causes the gateway to tell the cable network that it no longer wants to have its Internet address. This will cause the devices on the LAN to no longer have access to the Internet. Renew WAN Lease: This button causes the gateway to ask the cable network to reset the timer for its Internet address. If the gateway does not currently have an Internet address, the gateway will ask for a new address. Wide Area Network (WAN) Connection Settings WAN Connection Type DHCP Static IP L2TP (dhcp) L2TP (static) Help WAN Connection Type: The gateway supports four types on connections to the cable system: DHCP, Static IP address, Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) with DHCP, and L2TP with a static IP Address.
