Quick Start Wizard Step 1 of 6 Welcome This wizard will help you customize the SBG6580's common Wi-Fi settings. Note: This wizard will restore the SBG6580's default Wi-Fi settings before applying your Wi-Fi customizations. Tip: This wizard's customization options are enough for most people and most homes. But, if you have specialized network needs, you can further configure and customize the SBG6580 after completing the wizard. Quick Start Wizard Step 2 of 6 Wi-Fi Network Name & Passphrase Customize the Wi-Fi network's name and the passphrase used to connect to the network. Network Name (SSID) The name is between 1 and 32 alphanumeric characters long. Passphrase / Wi-Fi Security Key The passphrase is between 8 and 64 characters long. Quick Start Wizard Step 3 of 6 2.4GHz & 5GHz Networks Your SBG6580 has two Wi-Fi radios. One radio uses the 2.4GHz band and the other radio uses the newer 5GHz band. 2.4GHz devices can only connect to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, which is named: myNetworkName For best performance, connect newer, 5GHz Wi-Fi devices to your 5GHz network, which is named: myNetworkName-5g Quick Start Wizard Step 4 of 6 802.11ac Availability The 2.4GHz radio provides Wi-Fi using the 802.11 b , g , and n standards. The 5GHz radio provides Wi-Fi using the 802.11 n and ac standards. 802.11ac is the latest, fastest Wi-Fi standard. If your devices can use 802.11ac, please connect them to the 5GHz network, which is named: myNetworkName-5g Quick Start Wizard Step 4 of 6 Security Configuration This wizard will configure the SBG6580 to use modern WPA2-PSK security. WPA2-PSK security is very robust when used with a strong passphrase. Note: If older devices cannot connect using WPA2-PSK security, the SBG6580 can use the legacy WEP security scheme by manually selecting WEP on the network page. Then, keep them in a safe place. --> Quick Start Wizard Step 3 of 6 Wi-Fi Band Selection Your SBG6580's radio can provide Wi-Fi over the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band. Using the 5GHz band can improve Wi-Fi performance. However, many Wi-Fi devices can only connect using the 2.4GHz band. If your devices can use Wi-Fi on the 5GHz band, select 5GHz. If they can only use the 2.4GHz (or if you do not know) leave the band set to 2.4GHz.
