The Arris TG1682G router includes a pretty basic firewall that helps to protect your home network from unwanted access from the Internet. By design firewalls block incoming connections you have not authorized. If you need to allow a connection through your firewall you need to create a open port or more frequently called a port forward. A port forward allows a certain port to be forwarded straight from the Internet to a device on your home network.
The basic process involved is:
- Setup a static IP address on the computer or game console you want the ports forwarded to.
- Login to your Arris TG1682G router.
- Navigate to the port forwarding section.
- Click the Advanced link.
- Click on Port Forwarding.
- Click the Add Service button.
- Enter data in your router to create port forward entry.
Don't panic if this sounds too difficult, we walk you through each step in order to get the ports forwarded to the correct device on your home network.

Step 1
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
Use a VPN Instead

Step 2
Now we can login to the Arris TG1682G router. Routers use what is called a web interface. This means to access the router setup pages you need to login to it using a web browser. The web browser can be Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer or any other browser you want to. It should not make any difference what browser you choose to use.
After opening the web browser of your choice, look for the address bar. The address bar should be at the top of the page like this:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.
The default Arris TG1682G IP Address is: 10.0.0.1
Once you have entered the router's IP Address simply click the Enter button on your keyboard and you should see the following screen:
In the upper left corner of this screen it asks you for your username and password. To go any farther than this first page you need to enter these values.

- The Default Arris TG1682G Router Password is: password
Simply enter the correct username and password and click the LOGIN button in order to access more of your router setup pages.
Arris Usernames and Passwords
If the username and password you entered did not work, we recommend trying other Arris usernames and passwords. Check out our list of these on the Default Arris Router Passwords page.
If you still can't login after exhausting the other Arris usernames and passwords it may be that you changed the username and password in the past and have forgotten what they were. If this is the case you may need to reset the router back to it's original factory defaults. This erases all settings you have changed in the past. Step 3
To find the port forwarding section of the Arris TG1682G router follow these steps. We begin on the first page of your router:
First you need to select the Advanced option in the left sidebar.
Directly under that a new set of choices will appear. Click the one titled Port Forwarding.
You should now see the page above. On the right side of the page click the button labeled +ADD SERVICE.
Step 4
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074

In the Services Name dropdown box pick Other.
Put a name for this forward in the Other Service box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you.
Select the required protocol for these ports from the Service Type dropdown box.
Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to in the Server IP Address box. This is either the IP address of a computer or the IP address of another device on your network.
If you are only forwarding a single port number then enter that number into both the Start Port and the End Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports separated by a hyphen then enter the lowest number of that range into the Start Port box and the highest number of that range into the End Port box.
Click the Save button when you are finished.
Congratulations, you did it.
