In this guide we will show you how port forward the Asus TM-AC1900 router. Your router contains a firewall that blocks unwanted Internet access. This firewall blocks connections you may want to keep open for a game or application. In order to keep these connections open, you need to make a port forward. A port forward is literally forwarding a port through the firewall to a device of your choice on your local home network.

We will walk you through each of the following steps:

  1. Setting up a static IP address on the device you want to forward your ports to.
  2. Logging into your Asus TM-AC1900 router.
  3. Finding the port forwarding section.
    • Click the WAN link.
    • Click the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding link.
  4. And finally, what to enter in your router to get a port forwarded.

We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.

When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

NordVPN birthday deal!

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.

Step 2

It is now time to login to the Asus TM-AC1900 router. This router uses a web menu which means you need to open a web browser to login. It probably does not matter which browser you choose but the manual for this router specifies using either: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome.

Once you have opened the web browser of your choice, locate the address bar. It is normally at the top of the page like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default Asus TM-AC1900 IP Address is: 192.168.1.1

Simply press the Enter key on your keyboard after you type in the IP address. If all goes according to plan you will see the following page:

If you see a box asking for a username and password then you are in the right place.

Go ahead and enter the username and password that goes with your router's web menu. Then click the OK button.

Having Trouble?

This is a common place to get stuck. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can try:

  • The first thing we recommend is trying other Asus passwords and usernames. Sometimes if you have a slightly different firmware version you may have a different username and password. Here is a list of the Default Asus Router Passwords.
  • If that did not work, it is most likely because you changed the username and password in the past and have forgotten what you changed it to. The next step would be to try and guess what you changed it to. We can help with our Find Password App. It automates the process of trying thousands of different combinations. • Finally, if that did not work, it might be time to consider a reset. A reset like this one is a big step and should not be taken lightly. A reset erases every single setting you have ever changed in the history of this router. Learn more about this on the Asus TM-AC1900 Reset Guide.

Step 3

It is now time to find the port forwarding section of the router. To do that, we should start on the first page of your router:

Create a name for this forward and put it in the Service Name box. The name is only used as a reminder and has no effect on the port forward.

Enter the port to forward into both the Port Range and the Local Port boxes.

Enter the IP address to forward these ports to into the Local IP box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box.

From the Protocol box select the protocol for the ports that you want to forward.

When you are finished, click the Add button.

When you are done, select the Apply button near the bottom of the page.

Test if Your Ports are Open

It is now time to check to see if the ports forwarded correctly. We recommend using our Open Port Checker. This is part of our Network Utilities free trial. Our port checker uses a local application to listen for the server trying to connect. This way we can absolutely confirm whether or not the port forwarded properly.
