Easiest Way to Forward Ports on the Cisco RV110W Router

This router has a very basic firewall that helps to protect your home network from unwanted Internet access. The firewall works by blocking incoming and outgoing connections that you have not authorized. To authorize additional connections you need to create a port forward.

In this guide I will show you how to create a port forward on the Cisco RV110W router. These are the steps:

Create a static IP address on the device you are forwarding these ports to.
Login to the Cisco RV110W router interface.
Find the port forwarding page in the router interface.
Enter the port you are forwarding into the correct boxes on the port forwarding page.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

Or, manually create a static ip address with our Static IP Guides.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

TIP: Write this static IP address down. You need it in Step 4.

Step 2

Now we are going to login to the Cisco RV110W router interface. Routers use a web interface, meaning you need to open a web browser to login to the router interface. It doesn't matter which browser you decide to open. I recommend picking a fairly common one like, Chrome, Edge, or Internet Explorer.

Once the browser is open, look for the address bar. This is normally at the top of the page like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default Cisco RV110W IP Address is: 192.168.1.1

After you press the Enter key you see a login screen similar to this:

On this screen you will see a spot for a username and password. Enter the router's username and password here.

(This is not the WiFi username and password.)

Having Trouble?

This is a pretty common place to get stuck. If you find yourself here, don't panic, there are a few things you can try:

First, check all the different Cisco default combinations. Here is our list of all known Default Cisco Router Passwords.

Second, try and guess what the password/username was changed to. Use our Find Password App to make this step easier.

Step 3

Now that you are logged into the router interface it is time to find the port forwarding page. We will show you starting on the Dashboard page.

Begin by opening the link in the left sidebar labeled Firewall.

This opens up other options. You need to click either Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding.

Choose Single Port Forwarding if you are forwarding only one port or ports not in a range such as 24, 62, and 269.

Choose Port Range Forwarding if you are forwarding more than one port and they are in a range such as 24-56

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

TCP Ports: 3074

UDP Ports: 3074

Forwarding a Port Range

Put a name for this forward in the Application box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you.

If you are just forwarding a single port number then you can simply enter that same number into both the Start and the End boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, usually separated by a hyphen, then you need to enter the lowest number of that range into the Start box and then enter highest number into the End box.

Select the required protocol for these ports from the Protocol dropdown box.

Enter the IP address to forward these ports to into the IP Address box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box.

Enable the Enable checkbox by putting a check in it.

Forwarding a Single Port

Create a name for this forward and put it in the Application box. The name is only used as a reminder and has no effect on the port forward.

Enter the port to forward into the External Port and the Internal Port boxes.

Select the required protocol for these ports from the Protocol dropdown box.

Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to into the IP Address box. Note that if you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box instead.

Verify that you have the Enable checkbox checked.
