The Huawei HG8247 router has a pretty basic firewall that helps to protect your home network from unwanted access. A firewall is designed to block connections. It is necessary sometimes to unblock these ports for a game or application. This process of opening a port is commonly called a port forward.

To create a port forward on the Huawei HG8247 router you need to:

  1. Setup a Static Address on either your computer or device that you want to forward a port to.
  2. Login to your Huawei HG8247 router.
  3. Find the port forwarding section.
    • Click the Forward Rules link.
    • Click on Port Mapping Configuration.
  4. Make a port forward entry.

We understand that these steps may seem difficult. Don't worry, we will walk you through each step in the process.

We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.

When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

NordVPN birthday deal!

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

Step 2

This next step is logging into the router. To do this you need to open a web browser because your router uses a web interface. This can be Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer or any other web browser you would rather use. It shouldn't matter which browser you want to use.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default Huawei HG8247 IP Address is: 192.168.100.1

After entering the router's IP Address in the address bar simply click the Enter button. The following page should appear:

If you see a page similar to the one above asking for your Account and Password, you are on the right page.

Enter the correct Account and password then press the Login button to access the Huawei HG8247 web interface.

Huawei Usernames/Accounts and Passwords

If the username/account and password did not work we recommend trying other Huawei usernames and passwords. Check them out here on our Default Huawei Router Passwords page.

If you're still unable to login to the router it may be that you changed these values and have forgotten. It might be time to consider a router reset. Learn more about that in our How to Reset a Router guide.

Step 3

Once you have logged into the router you need to find the port forwarding section. To do that start from the first page of your router.

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

  • TCP Ports: 3074
  • UDP Ports: 3074

If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:

Pick the Custom radio button choice.

Pick an available connection from the WAN Name dropdown box.

Select the required protocol for these ports from the Protocol dropdown box.

If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the External Start Port, External End Port, Internal Start Port and Internal End Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of the range into the External Start Port and Internal Start Port boxes. Then enter the highest number of the range into the External End Port and Internal End Port boxes.

Enter the IP address to forward these ports to into the Internal Host box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box.

You need to name this entry in the Mapping Name box. The name does not make any difference in the forward; it's just there so that you can remember later why you setup this forward.

Put a checkmark in the Enable Port Mapping checkbox.

When you are all done click the Apply button.

Don't forget to click the Apply button after each entry is complete.

Test if Your Ports are Open

You have told the router to forward the ports, are they really open? To find out you can use our FREE Open Port Checker. This is part of our Network Utilities tool.
