Wireless - Primary Network Settings Configure your wireless network. You can use a wireless local area network (WLAN) to share Internet access, files, printers, game consoles, and other devices among all the devices in your home. 2.4 GHz 5 GHz Wi-Fi Network Wireless Network Enabled Disabled Help Turns your wireless network on and off. Network Name (SSID) Error - SSID must be at least one character long but no more than 32 alphanumeric characters. Help Each Wi-Fi network is given a name that identifies it to the devices joining the network. This name is the network's SSID (Service Set Identifier). It is the name that people will see and use when they are connecting to your network. You may keep the default name or change it to one that is easier to remember. Network Name (SSID) Broadcast Enabled Disabled Help When enabled, the network name (SSID) is broadcast and can be discovered by devices seeking a Wi-Fi network connection. When disabled, the network name (SSID) is not broadcast and cannot be discovered by devices seeking a Wi-Fi network connection. Disabling the broadcast can add additional security to your network. Only people who know and then manually enter the network name (SSID) into their devices can find the network to use it. Without good security, intruders can not only use your network, but can intercept your Internet traffic and even gain access to your devices. The SBG6580 offers three industry standard modes of Wi-Fi security: WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, and WEP. WPA2-PSK offers the best security for your network and should be used unless you have devices that do not support WPA2-PSK. WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK allows devices that do support WPA-PSK but not WPA2-PSK to connect with the network while still providing the added security of WPA2-PSK to the devices that do support it. WEP offers the least amount of security of the three. It is recommended that WEP only be used when there are older devices that need to connect to the network that only support WEP. WPA-PSK Security Settings Encryption TKIP AES AES+TKIP Help Select TKIP or AES or both AES and TKIP. Passphrase Error - ERROR TEXT Help WPA-PSK is a simplified but still powerful form of WPA, most suitable for home wireless networking. As with WEP, you set a static key or passphrase. However, WPA-PSK uses TKIP to automatically change the keys on a regular basis, making it much more difficult to break the encryption. Network Key 1 Use Error - Help The Network Keys are used to encrypt the data carried over the Wi-Fi network. The keys must be the same on the SBG6580 and each device that will connect to the network. Network Key 2 Use Error - Network Key 3 Use Error - Network Key 4 Use Error - Generate Keys Help A passphrase can be used to generate the encryption keys used on the network. The longer and more unique you make the passphrase, the better protected your network. Once you enter the passphrase, press "Generate" to create the keys. If any of your devices does not support the passphrase, individual keys should be manually entered into those devices. Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) Automatic Security Configuration WPS Enabled Disabled Help Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) allows you to automatically configure the security settings in a wireless device. This is done in one of two ways: by push button or PIN number. Before using WPS, be mindful of other wireless clients within range of the Residential Gateway so as to not allow unauthorized access to your router. WPS Add Client (Push Button Method) Press the button on the SBG6580 to start WPS pairing. Help To use the push button method, press the button on the client device and on the SBG6580. This will allow the SBG6580 to send the security settings to the client device. If you have questions about WPS and your device, please consult your device's user manual. WPS Add Client (Gateway PIN Method) Error - Help To use this PIN number method, enter the PIN number you see above into the client device.
