What is IP Filtering used for? IP Filtering allows you to block access to the Internet based on a specific IP address . Can I prevent a device on my network from accessing the Internet? Yes, there are two ways to restrict devices on your LAN from accessing the Internet. You can restrict access based on a device’s IP address (IP Filtering). The second way you can prevent access to the Internet is based on a particular port (Port Filtering). With IP Filtering you are blocking access for a particular device, with Port Filtering you are blocking access for ALL network devices. Port filtering restricts access based on a specified port. What is the Block All Traffic option used for? The Block All Traffic option specifies that all network traffic to the LAN IP address selected is blocked. By default, this option is not enabled. What is the Block Outgoing Ping option used for? The Block Outgoing Ping option specifies whether or not you want your device with the specified LAN IP address to be able to send a ping to the Internet. By default, this option is not enabled. When is it useful to enable the Block Outgoing Ping option? Blocking outgoing pings can be useful if a computer has a virus that attempts a Ping-of-Death denial of service attack. How do I setup IP Filtering? Although not required, we recommend that IP filtering be used on Local Area Networks that use Static IP addresses. With DHCP you would need to re-configure your IP filtering settings every time your devices receive new IP Addresses. Incorrectly changing these settings may interrupt your Internet or voice service or increase the vulnerability of computers on your home network to hacker attacks. We recommend that only users with advanced networking knowledge change these settings . More... My video game does not appear on the pre-defined list of video games. What do I do?
