TP-Link TL-WR841N Router Port Forwarding Steps

In this guide we show you how to open a port for the TP-Link TL-WR841N router. All TP-Link TL-WR841N router have a basic firewall to help protect your home network from unwanted access from the Internet. The TP-Link TL-WR841N firewall blocks connections that you may want or need opened. In order to unblock these connections you need to open a port or port forward. A port forward allows connections on that port to be forwarded directly to your home network.

To open a port on the TP-Link TL-WR841N router you:

First, setup a static IP address on the specific device you are forwarding ports to.
Then you need to login to your TP-Link TL-WR841N router.
Once you have logged into the router you need to find the port forwarding section:
1. Click the Forwarding link.
2. Click on Virtual Servers.
3. Click the Add New button.
Finally, create a port forward entry.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Step 2

We can now login to the TP-Link TL-WR841N router. This router makes use of a web interface, meaning you need to login using a web browser. This can be Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox or any other browser you want to use. It should not matter which browser you prefer to use.

Open up your web browser and locate the address bar. It will look like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default TP-Link TL-WR841N IP Address is: 192.168.1.1 After you enter the IP Address of the router you can press the Enter button on your keyboard. If all went as it should, you will see the following screen:

Do you see a box asking you for your username and password?

The Default TP-Link TL-WR841N Router Username is: admin
The Default TP-Link TL-WR841N Router Password is: admin

Go ahead and enter the username and password, then click the OK button to access the TP-Link TL-WR841N router.

Step 3

After a successful login you need to locate the port forwarding section of your router. To do this, let's start from the page you see below:

First, click the Forwarding link in the left sidebar.

A new menu appears below. Select the option of Virtual Servers.

On this new page, find and click the Add New... button. It should be in the center section of the screen.

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

TCP Ports: 3074

UDP Ports: 3074

Enter the port to forward into the Service Port box.

Enter the IP address of the device that you want to forward ports to into the IP Address box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network.

Select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding from the Protocol box.

In the Status dropdown box choose Enabled.

When you are all done click the Save button.
