After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Log in to your TP-Link TL-ER6120 router. To log in you will need to use a web browser since the TP-Link TL-ER6120 uses a web interface to access router configurations.

Open up whichever internet browser that you are comfortable with. If you are not sure which one to use, then go ahead and open Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

  1. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Name box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.

  2. Select your internet connection from the Interface drop-down box.

  3. If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the left External Port and the right External Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left External Port box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the right External Port box.

  4. Take the values that you entered in the left External Port box and put the exact same numbers in the left Internal Port box.

  5. Enter the same values into the right Internal Port box that you entered into the right External Port box.

  6. Use the Protocol dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. If your router has the option of Both, then choose that. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have Both, then you have to create two entries.

  7. You need to enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Internal Server IP box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or any other IP address on your network that you want ports forwarded to.

  8. Click the Activate radio button.

  9. To apply these changes, remember to click the Add button at the right of the page when you are completely finished.

Test If Your Ports Are Open

Finally, I strongly recommend testing to see if you forwarded the TP-Link TL-ER6120 ports correctly. To do this you can use our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. Open Port Checker is the only online port checking tool that has Guaranteed Results.
