Fastest Way to Forward Ports on the 2wire 1000s Router

The 2wire 1000s router has a very basic "firewall" that helps to protect your home network from unwanted access from the Internet. Since this firewall blocks incoming connections you may need to open ports for an online game or program to run smoothly. Opening ports is often called a port forward.

In this guide I will be showing you exactly how to port forward on the 2wire 1000s router. The steps we will cover in this guide are:

How to setup a static IP address on the device you plan on forwarding these ports to.
How to login to the 2wire 1000s router web interface.
How to find the port forwarding page in the router's web interface.
How to setup a port forward for the online game or program of your choice.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

TIP: Write this static IP address down. You need it in Step 4.

Step 2

The 2wire 1000s router uses a web interface which means you need to login using a web browser. It doesn't matter what browser you decide to use, simply pick your favorite such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. It typically doesn't matter which browser you decide to use.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default 2wire 1000s IP Address is: 192.168.62.1

After entering the IP address of your router you can simply press Enter. If all goes well you will see the following screen:

If you don't see the above login screen or a similar one, then most likely the router's IP address has been changed. To find out what it is right now, follow the directions on the How To Find Your Router's IP Address guide.

Look for your password on the bottom of your router or in the paperwork that came with your router.

Having Trouble?

This is a pretty common place to get stuck. If you find yourself here, don't panic, there are a few things you can try:

First, check all the different 2wire default combinations. Here is our list of all known Default 2wire Router Passwords.

Second, try and guess what the password/username was changed to. Use our Find Password App to make this step easier.

Step 3

You should now be on the home page of the 2wire 1000s router. Let's find the port forwarding section now. We begin on the Network at a Glance page:

Begin by clicking the Firewall button at the top of the page. It has a picture of a lock on it.

Next, click the Firewall Settings button under the first firewall option.

Next to the blue circled number 1 use the Select a computer drop down box to pick the computer you are forwarding these ports to. This is the device you created the static IP address for in Step 1. This list contains all the devices that are visible on your network.

Then click the option labeled Add a new user-defined application. This is located further down the page in the Applications box.

You should now see the page above. This is the page you need in order to create a port forward.

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

TCP Ports: 3074

UDP Ports: 3074

Make up a name to put in the Application Name box. The name does not have any effect on the functionality of the forward, it's simply there so you can know why it was created.

Select the protocol that you are forwarding in the Protocol radio button.

If you need both TCP and UDP forwarded then you need to create a duplicate configuration. One configuration has TCP selected and the other one has have UDP selected.

If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the Port (or Range) From and the Port (or Range) To boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the Port (or Range) From box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the Port (or Range) To box.

In the Protocol Timeout (seconds) box you need to enter a protocol timeout. The default protocol timeouts are 86400 for TCP and 600 for UDP. Unless you have a reason to use different numbers these timeouts should work fine.

Go ahead and leave the Map to Host Port box empty.

The default for Application Type is set to None. Leave it like this.

Click the Add Definition button.

When you are finished click the Back button.

Go ahead and select the applications you just created in the Applications list. Then click the Add button to move them over to the Hosted Applications box.

Finally, click the Done button at the bottom of your screen

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the 2wire 1000s you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
