Simple Instructions to Help Setup a Port Forward on the Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B Router

Your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router protects your home network by limiting incoming connections from the internet. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock some of those connections like when you want to create a direct connection for gaming, use a specific application, or set up a new device on your network. This process is called forwarding or opening a port. In your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router you many need to open a port, which means assigning a port number or set of port numbers to a specific IP address. This routes the incoming data to the correct device on your network.

To open ports in your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router, follow the steps below:

1. Go ahead and set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding these ports to.
2. Log in to your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router.

Step 1

If you want to ensure that your ports remain open even after your device reboots, set up a static IP address in the device that you are opening a port for.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

Log in to your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router. To log in you will need to use a web browser since the Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B uses a web interface to access router configurations.

Open up whichever internet browser that you are comfortable with. If you are not sure which one to use, then go ahead and open Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Once you have opened a web browser, find the address bar which is usually located at the top of the screen. The image below shows an example of this.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The default IP address for the Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router is: 192.168.1.254

Once you have entered your router's IP address in the address bar go ahead and click the enter button on your keyboard. You should see a box like the one shown below.

Enter the username and password for the Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B in the corresponding boxes. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

To log in to your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router, enter your username and password, and then click the Login button.

Step 3

After successfully logging in to your Alcatel-Lucent G-240W-B router you should see the router's home page on your screen. Find the Port Forwarding section of your router.

• Click on the Application tab at the left of the screen.
• Click on Port Forwarding.

You are now on the Port Forwarding page.

Step 4

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

• TCP Ports: 3074
• UDP Ports: 3074

1. Select Custom Settings from the Application Name drop-down box.

2. Go ahead and enter the port number into the left WAN Port and the right WAN Port boxes, to forward a single port. To forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left WAN Port box and then enter the highest number of that range into the right WAN Port box.

3. Enter the exact same values that you put in the WAN Port boxes, into the LAN Port boxes.

4. Make the Custom Settings selection in the Internal Client drop-down list. Then, go ahead and enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Internal Client box. It is possible for this to be either the IP address of your computer or of any other device on your network that you want ports forwarded to.

5. In the Protocol dropdown box, select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. Choose Both if your router has that option. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have the Both option, then you need to create two entries.

6. Put a check in the box labeled Enable Mapping.

7. Select your internet connection from the WAN Connection List drop down list. If you have more than one option and aren't sure which to select, the WAN Status page may give you an idea.

8. Click the Add button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes when you are completely finished.
