Simple Arris BGW210-700 Router Open Port Instructions

A Arris BGW210-700 router contains a basic firewall to help protect your home network. A Firewall blocks incoming connections by nature. Sometimes you need to unblock some of these connections so you can run a game or application. This is called opening a port or port forwarding. Port forwarding is literally forwarding a port from the internet to your home network.

You need to follow the steps below to open ports in your Arris BGW210-700 router:

1. Set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to.
2. Go ahead and access your Arris BGW210-700 router.
3. Find the Port Forwarding section in your Arris BGW210-700 router.
   • Click the Firewall tab at the top of the screen.
   • Click the tab that says NAT/Gaming.
4. Go ahead and create a NAT/Gaming entry.

Setup A Static IP Address

It is important to set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports remain forwarded even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Accessing Your Arris Router

Log in to the Arris BGW210-700 router. To do this you need to use a web browser because the Arris BGW210-700 router uses what is called a web interface.

It normally doesn't matter what web browser you use so go ahead and open up your favorite. If you don't have a favorite then open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Once you have opened up a browser window, find the address bar. This is usually at the top of the page like the image below shows.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The Arris BGW210-700 router's default IP address is: 192.168.1.254

Enter your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and click the enter button on your keyboard. You should now be on a page called Status.

Find the Port Forwarding Section

Navigate to the NAT/Gaming section in your Arris BGW210-700 router.

• Click the Firewall tab at the top of the screen.
• Click the tab that says NAT/Gaming.

You may be prompted to log in to your router at this point. If you are, you'll see a page that looks like the following:

Enter the username and password for the Arris BGW210-700 in the corresponding boxes. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

• The default Arris BGW210-700 Router Username is: none
• The default Arris BGW210-700 Router Password is: printed on router

To log in to your Arris BGW210-700 router, enter your username and password, and then click the Continue button.

If you are unable to log in even after trying the above list of passwords you may need to consider a reset for your router. Our guide How to Reset a Router can help you with that. After resetting the Arris BGW210-700 router your username and password will be reverted back to factory defaults.

You should now be on a page that says NAT/Gaming.

Create A Port Forward

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

• TCP Ports: 3074
• UDP Ports: 3074

Creating a Custom Service

If the application you want to forward is not listed, you'll need to create a custom service for it. To start creating a custom service, click the button labeled Custom Services.

1. Make up a name to put in the Service Name box. The name does not have any effect on the functionality of the forward; it's simply there so you can know why it was created.

2. If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the left Global Port Range and the right Global Port Range boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left Global Port Range box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the right Global Port Range box.

3. Take the same values that you entered into the left Global Port Range box, and enter them into the Base Host Port box.

4. In the Protocol dropdown box, select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. Choose Both if your router has that option. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have the Both option, then you need to create two entries.

5. Click the Add button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished to apply these changes.

When you've finished creating your custom applications, head back to the NAT/Gaming page.

Forwarding an Application

Now you just need to forward your applications to a device.

1. Select the application you want to forward from the Service list.

2. Select the device the application is for from the Needed by Device list.

3. Click the Add button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished to apply these changes.
