An important aspect of having a Arris router on your home network is internet security. In general, routers block incoming internet connections and protect your network by only allowing the connections that you specifically set up. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock certain connections in your router or open a port in order to play a game or use an application. The following steps will show you how to open ports on the Arris DG3450A router:

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry
Forwarding ports in your router creates a path that allows data to get through your network firewall, and this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. So make sure that you must forward a port before actually doing so. However, the risk is very low, so do not let this warning stop you from making this change if you need to.

To start adding an entry, click on the Add Service button.
- If you are unable to click the Add Service button, make sure that the Port Forwarding option near the top of the page is set to Enable.
-
Select Other from the Common Service drop-down box.
-
Make up a name to put in the Service Name box. The name does not have any effect on the functionality of the forward; it's simply there so you can know why it was created.
-
Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Service Type dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise, select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP, but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.
-
Find the Server IPv4 Address box and enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This can be either the IP address of your computer or any other IP address for devices on your network that you want to forward ports for.
-
To forward a single port, enter the port number into the Internal Start Port and the Internal End Port boxes. To forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number in the range into the Internal Start Port box. Then enter the highest number in the range into the Internal End Port box.
-
Enter the exact same values that you put in the Internal Port boxes, into the External Port boxes.
-
To apply these changes, remember to click the Save button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.
