The Arris SBG6782-AC router has a firewall. This firewall protects your home network by blocking incoming and outgoing connections that are not authorized. Some online games or programs require additional connections to be opened so they can run smoothly. The process of opening additional ports is called a port forward.

In this guide I will walk you step-by-step through the port forwarding process on the Arris SBG6782-AC router. I will show you how to:

We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.

When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

NordVPN faster than ever deal!

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.

Step 2

This next step is to login to the Arris SBG6782-AC router. In order to do this you need to open a web browser. I recommend picking one you are comfortable with such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default Arris SBG6782-AC IP Address is: 192.168.0.1

After entering the IP address of your router you can simply press enter. If all goes well you will see the following screen:

router login screen
This is the login page from your Arris router.

If a login screen did not appear after you entered the router's IP address in the address bar, you need to find out what the router's IP address has been changed to. I recommend following the directions on the How To Find Your Router's IP Address page.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password.

Enter your username and password, and then click the Login button to log in to your Arris SBG6782-AC router.

Arris Username and Password Trouble

If your username and password do not work then please visit our Default Arris Router Passwords page.

If the none of the default Arris usernames and passwords worked, then why not try and guess what the password was changed to. Use our Find Password App to make guessing a little easier.

If you still can't login to your router because you forgot your Arris SBG6782-AC router username and password, use our How to Reset a Router Password guide to set your Arris SBG6782-AC router back to its factory settings.

Step 3

Now we need to find the port forwarding section in your router. Here's how you do it. Starting from the Home page in your router:

Leave the External IP Address box set to the default value of 0.0.0.0.

Enter the IP address of the device that you want to forward ports to into the Local IP Address box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network.

If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into both of the Local Start/End Port and both of the External Start/End Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left hand Local Start/End Port and External Start/End Port boxes. Then enter the highest number of that range into the right hand Local Start/End Port and External Start/End Port boxes.

Make up a name to put in the Description box. The name does not have any effect on the functionality of the forward, it's simply there so you can know why it was created.

Select the required protocol for these ports from the Protocol dropdown box.

From the Enabled dropdown box select On.

When you are done, click the Apply button to save your work.

Your ports should now be open. It is time to test them.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Arris SBG6782-AC you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.

To test if your port has been properly forwarded, you can use our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. Our Open Port Check tool is the only online port checking tool with Guaranteed Results.
