A Arris TG1692A router protects your home network by blocking unwanted incoming internet connections and acting as a basic firewall. Sometimes you need to open a port in your router in order to get a good connection for a game or to use a specific device on your network. The TG1692A lets you choose the applications that are allowed to connect through an open port. By opening a port in your router you allow a specific application or game to send data from the internet to your home network.
Follow these steps to open a port in your Arris TG1692A router:
- On the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to, you will need to set up a static IP address.
- Login to your Arris TG1692A router.
- Make your way to the Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding section of the Arris TG1692A router.
- Find the Firewall tab at the top of the screen and click on it.
- Find the Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding link at the left of the screen and click it.
- Go ahead and create a Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding entry.

Login To Your Arris Router
The Arris TG1692A router uses a web interface to display router settings. In order to login to the Arris TG1692A router you need to use a web browser.
Open your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. If you are already in a browser window, go ahead and open up a new tab.
We have simplified this step for you with this link: Login to your TG1692A Router
Find the address bar in your browser window. This is usually found at the top of the page, like in the image below.
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.
The Arris TG1692A router's default IP address is: 192.168.0.1
Enter your router's IP address into the address bar of your browser and click the enter button on your keyboard. A box like the one below should appear.
To login, enter the username and password for the Arris TG1692As. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.
- The default Arris TG1692A Router Username is: NET_(plus the last six characters of the MAC address)
- The default Arris TG1692A Router Password is: the full MAC address
Once you enter your username and password, click the Apply button.
Arris Usernames and Passwords
If the username and password did not work I recommend checking out our Default Arris Router Passwords page.
If, after trying the above list of passwords you still can't login you may need to consider a reset for your router. Learn how to do that by reading our How to Reset a Router guide. After resetting the Arris TG1692A router your username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
Find the Port Forwarding Section
You should be on the home page of your Arris TG1692A router once you have successfully logged in. Find the Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding section of your router.
- Find the Firewall tab located near the top of the screen and click it.
- Click on the Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding link, which is at the left of the screen.
You are now on the Virtual Servers / Port Forwarding page.
Create A Port Forward
Forwarding ports in your router creates a path that allows data to get through your network firewall, and this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. So make sure that you must forward a port before actually doing so. However, the risk is very low, so do not let this warning stop you from making this change if you need to.
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:
- Browsing our List of Games
- Check out our our List of Games by Genre
- See our List of all Applications

-
Click on the Add button.
-
Make up a name to put in the Description box. The name does not have any effect on the functionality of the forward; it's simply there so you can know why it was created.
-
If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the left Inbound Port and the right Inbound Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left Inbound Port box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the right Inbound Port box.
-
Use the Type dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding. If your router has the option of Both, then choose that. Otherwise, choose either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP and your router does not have Both, then you have to create two entries.
-
Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Private IP Address box. It is possible to forward a port to the IP address of your computer or to the IP address of a specific device on your internal network.
-
Enter the exact same values that you put in the Inbound Port boxes, into the Local Port boxes.
-
Click the Add button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished to apply these changes.
