Fastest Asus RT-N12D1 Router Port Forwarding Instructions

Your RT-N12D1 router helps to protect your network by blocking incoming internet connections. This is an important feature that helps you to control which applications have access to your network. Sometimes you want to allow network access to a specific application in order to play a game, connect a device, or use an app. The Asus RT-N12D1 can unblock certain incoming connections through port forwarding or by opening a port. You can open ports in your RT-N12D1 by assigning specific ports to an IP address. Forwarding these ports directs incoming data to a specific device or application.

Follow these steps to open a port in your Asus RT-N12D1 router:

1. On the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to, you will need to set up a static IP address.
2. Log in to your Asus RT-N12D1 router.
3. In your Asus RT-N12D1 router, navigate to the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding section.
   • Click on the WAN tab, which is at the left of the screen.
   • Click on the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding tab, which is at the top of the screen.
4. Create a Virtual Server / Port Forwarding entry.

Step 1 - Setup A Static IP Address

It is important to set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports remain forwarded even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2 - Login To Your Asus Router

In order to login to the Asus RT-N12D1 router you need to use a web browser. The Asus RT-N12D1 router uses what is called a web interface where you can access and control router settings.

Go ahead and open up your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Find the address bar once you have opened up a web browser. This is usually located at the top of the page, like in the image below.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The Asus RT-N12D1 router's default IP address is: 192.168.1.1

After typing your router's IP address into the address bar, make sure to click the enter button on your keyboard. You should see a box similar to the one shown below.

Enter the username and password for the Asus RT-N12D1 in the corresponding boxes. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

To log in to your Asus RT-N12D1 router, enter your username and password, and then click the Sign in button.

Step 3 - Find The Port Forwarding Section

You should be on your routers home page once you complete logging in. Find the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding section on the home page of the Asus RT-N12D1 router.

• Click on the WAN tab at the left of the screen.
• Find the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding tab located near the top of the screen and click on it.

You are now on the Virtual Server / Port Forwarding page.

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

• TCP Ports: 3074
• UDP Ports: 3074

1. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Service Name box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.

2. If you are forwarding a single port number, enter it into the Port Range box. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the Port Range box followed by a colon followed by the largest number. For example a range of port numbers might look like this: 1000:2000.

3. You need to enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Local IP box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or any other IP address on your network that you want ports forwarded to.

4. Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Protocol dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise, select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP, but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.

5. Don't worry about entering anything in to either the Source Target or Local Port boxes, they can both be left empty.

6. To finish adding an entry, click the Add button to the right.

7. When you are completely finished, click the Apply button at the bottom of the page to apply these changes.
