BT Home Hub 2 Router Port Forwarding

The BT Home Hub 2 router includes a basic firewall that helps protect your home network from unwanted Internet activity. Since the firewall blocks incoming ports, some of your online games and programs will not run as smoothly. To allow more incoming ports you need to create a port forward.

In this guide we walk you through all the steps involved in port forwarding the BT Home Hub 2 router. These steps include:

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

Another way to get a permanent IP address is to set up a DHCP reservation.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

Step 2

Now we will login to the BT Home Hub 2 router. This router has a web interface which means you login using a web browser. It normally doesn't matter which browser you decide to use, simply pick your favorite such as Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, or Firefox.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default BT Home Hub 2 IP Address is: 192.168.1.254

After entering the IP address of your router you can simply press enter. If all goes well you will see the following screen:

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. If you do not see the screen above you need to be sure the router IP address is correct. To do this you can follow the directions on our How To Find Your Router's IP Address page.

Enter your username and password, and then click the Login or OK button to log in to your BT Home Hub 2 router.

Step 3

Now we need to find the port forwarding section in your router. Here's how you do it. Starting from the first page in your router:

Start by clicking the Settings button at the top of the page.

You should now see a new menu. Click the new option of Advanced Settings.

Now click the Continue to Advanced Settings button in the middle of the page.

On this new page, click the option of Application Sharing at the top of the page.

Another menu will appear. Click the new option of Supported Applications.

Finally, click the Add new game or application button in the center section of the page.

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

TCP Ports: 3074

UDP Ports: 3074

Put a name for this forward in the Game/Application Name box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you.

Select the required protocol for these ports from the Protocol dropdown box.

If you are only forwarding a single port number then enter that number into both the Left Port Range, Left Translate To and the Right Port Range, Right Translate To boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports separated by a hyphen then enter the lowest number of that range into the Left Port Range, Left Translate To box and the highest number of that range into the Right Port Range, Right Translate To box.

Click the Add button when you are finished.

Once you are finished, click the Apply button.

Then click the option of Configuration at the top of the page.

Now use the Device box to choose the device you want to forward these ports to. The box here contains a list of all the devices that are visible on your network.

Select the application you created using the Application drop down box.

Finally, click Add to enable it.

When you are finished, click the Apply button to save your changes.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the BT Home Hub 2 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
