Your VR-3033 router helps to protect your network by blocking incoming internet connections. This is an important feature that helps you to control which applications have access to your network. Sometimes you want to allow network access to a specific application in order to play a game, connect a device, or use an app. The Comtrend VR-3033 can unblock certain incoming connections through port forwarding or by opening a port. You can open ports in your VR-3033 by assigning specific ports to an IP address. Forwarding these ports directs incoming data to a specific device or application.

To open ports in your Comtrend VR-3033 router, follow the steps below:

  1. Go ahead and set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding these ports to.
  2. Go ahead and log in to your Comtrend VR-3033 router.
  3. In your Comtrend VR-3033 router, navigate to the Virtual Servers section.
    • Find the NAT link located near the left of the screen and click it.
    • Find the Virtual Servers link located near the left of the screen and click it.
  4. Create a port forward entry.

If this sounds difficult, you are not alone. We will walk you through each step in opening a port for the Comtrend VR-3033 router.

We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.

When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!

Step 1

Set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This is an important step that keeps your ports open even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

In order to login to the Comtrend VR-3033 router you need to use a web browser. The Comtrend VR-3033 router uses what is called a web interface where you can access and control router settings.

Go ahead and open up your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

If this step is confusing, we have simplified it for you with this link: Login to your VR-3033 Router

Find the address bar once you have opened up a web browser. This is usually located at the top of the page, like in the image below.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The default IP address for the Comtrend VR-3033 router is: 192.168.1.1

Once you have entered your router's IP address in the address bar go ahead and click the enter button on your keyboard. You should see a box like the one shown below.

Basic Authentication

To login, enter the username and password for the Comtrend VR-3033s. Important Note: If you have changed them in the past, you need to enter in those values.

Once you enter your username and password, click the Log In button.

Comtrend Username and Password Trouble

If the username and password that you typed in did not work, check out our Default Comtrend Router Passwords page for other ideas about possible passwords.

If, after trying the above list of passwords you still can't log in, you may need to reset your router. Learn how to do that by reading our How to Reset a Router guide. After resetting the Comtrend VR-3033 router your username and password are reverted back to factory defaults. Router settings may also change when you reset, so make a note of your current router settings before you reset.

Step 3

You should be on the home page of your Comtrend VR-3033 router once you have successfully logged in. Find the Virtual Servers section of your router.

Step 4

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

  • TCP Ports: 3074
  • UDP Ports: 3074

Make the selection Custom Service.

Put a name for this forward in the Custom Service box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter, so pick something that has meaning to you.

Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Server IP Address box. It is possible to forward a port to the IP address of your computer or to the IP address of a specific device on your internal network.

If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into the External Port Start and the External Port End boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the External Port Start box. Then enter the highest number of that range into the External Port End box.

Enter the exact same values that you put in the External Port box, into the Internal Port box.

Choose All from the Protocol drop-down list.

Remember to click the Apply/Save button at the left of the page to apply these changes when you are completely finished.

Test If Your Ports Are Open

Finally, I strongly recommend testing to see if you forwarded the Comtrend VR-3033 ports correctly. To do this you can use our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. Open Port Checker is the only online port checking tool that has Guaranteed Results.
