The D-Link DIR-600 router includes a basic firewall that helps to protect your home network from unwanted connections to and from the Internet. A firewall is a safety wall between you and the Internet and it will continue to block all connections unless you tell it otherwise. Sometimes a game or application requires a connection to be unblocked. This process is called opening a port or port forward because it forwards the port directly to a device in your local home network.
To open a port you need to:
- Setup a static IP address on the device you are forwarding ports to.
- Login to your D-Link DIR-600 router.
- Find the port forwarding section.
- Click the Advanced link.
- Enter the data needed to create a port forward.
Don't be overwhelmed by the above steps, we will walk you through them all in order.
We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That's why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.
When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!
Step 1
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.
- Recommended - Our free Static IP Setter will set up a static IP address for you.
- Another way to get a permanent IP address is to set up a DHCP reservation.
- Or, manually create a static ip address with our Static IP Guides.
This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
Use a VPN Instead
Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
Step 2
Step two is all about logging into your D-Link DIR-600 router. To do this you need to open up a web browser because this router uses a web interface. It doesn't matter what browser you use, simply pick your favorite. Some common choices are Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Edge.
After opening the web browser of your choice, find the address bar along the top of the page:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.
The default D-Link DIR-600 IP Address is: 192.168.0.1
After you have finished entering the IP Address into the address bar click the Enter button on your keyboard. If all went well you should see the following page:
You should see the screen above. Simply enter the router's username and password here.
- The Default D-Link DIR-600 Router Username is: admin
- The Default D-Link DIR-600 Router Password is: blank
Enter your username and password, then click the Log In button to access your D-Link DIR-600 router.
Problems with the D-Link Username and Password
If the username and password did not work then we recommend trying other common D-Link passwords. Check out our list on this Default D-Link Router Passwords page.
If you still can't login to the D-Link DIR-600 router you may have changed the username and password in the past and forgotten. It may be time to consider a reset. A reset like this one erases all changed settings in your router. If this is something you need to consider check out our How to Reset a Router guide.
Step 3
Time to find the port forwarding section of this D-Link DIR-600 router. To do that follow these steps:
Starting from the page above, click the option of ADVANCED at the top of the page.
This brings you to the page you see above. If it does not, simply click the PORT FORWARDING button in the left sidebar.
Step 4
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074
If you are looking for the ports for a different application you can find it by either:

You might notice that most of our site doesn't have ads on it. This is because we use partnerships with companies like NordVPN to keep the site running. Thank you for supporting us by using our referral links.
Put a name for this forward in the Name box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you.
Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to in the IP Address box. You can enter either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another computer or device on your network.
If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number into both of the Public Port and both of the Private Port boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, enter the lowest number of that range into the left hand Public Port and Private Port boxes. Then enter the highest number of that range into the right hand Public Port and Private Port boxes.
In the Traffic Type box select the protocol that you want to forward these ports over.
When you are finished, click the Save Settings button at the top of the page.
Testing if Your Ports are Open
Once you are finished with the port forwarding you need to check to see if it forwarded properly. To do this we recommend using our Network Utilities tool, which includes a free Open Port Checker. This port checker is Guaranteed to work.
