Easiest Way to Forward Ports on the HughesNet HT2000 Router

An important aspect of having a HughesNet router on your home network is internet security. In general, routers block incoming internet connections and protect your network by only allowing the connections that you specifically set up. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock certain connections in your router or open a port in order to play a game or use an application. To help you get a better connection for gaming or using an application, you can open a port in your HT2000 and allow a direct connection.

In order to open ports in your HughesNet HT2000 router, you need to:

1. On the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to, you will need to set up a static IP address.
2. Login to your HughesNet HT2000 router.
3. In your HughesNet HT2000 router, navigate to the Port Mapping section.
   • Click on the Advanced Setup link at the left of the screen.
   • Click the link called NAT.
   • Click on the link called Port Mapping.
4. Go ahead and create a Port Mapping entry.

Step 1 - Setup A Static IP Address

It is important to set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports remain forwarded even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2 - Login To Your HughesNet Router

The HughesNet HT2000 router uses a web interface to display router settings. In order to login to the HughesNet HT2000 router you need to use a web browser.

Open your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. If you are already in a browser window, go ahead and open up a new tab.

Find the address bar in your browser window. This is usually found at the top of the page, like in the image below.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The HughesNet HT2000 router's default IP address is: 192.168.42.1

After typing your router's IP address into the address bar, make sure to click the enter button on your keyboard. You should see a box similar to the one shown below.

Go ahead and enter the username and password for the HughesNet HT2000 router in the spaces available. Remember if you have changed them in the past, you need to enter those values.

Enter your username and password, and then click the Login button to log in to your HughesNet HT2000 router.

If you are unable to log in even after trying the above list of passwords you may need to consider a reset for your router. Our guide How to Reset a Router can help you with that. After resetting the HughesNet HT2000 router your username and password will be reverted back to factory defaults.

Step 3 - Find The Port Forwarding Section

After a successful login to the HughesNet HT2000 router you should be on the home page of your router. Now you need to find the Port Mapping section.

• Find the Advanced Setup link at the left of the screen and click it.
• Click the link that says NAT.
• Click on the Port Mapping link.

You should now be on a page called Port Mapping.

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

• TCP Ports: 3074
• UDP Ports: 3074

1. In the LAN IP Address box, enter the IP address that you want ports forwarded to. This may be the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network that you want to forward ports to.

2. Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Protocol Type dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise, select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP, but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.

3. Enter the port you want to forward in to both the Public Port and LAN Port boxes.

4. Put a check in the Enable box.

5. To apply these changes, remember to click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.
