Fastest Motorola SBG6580 Router Port Forwarding Instructions

Did you know that your Motorola SBG6580 router comes with a firewall? This firewall blocks connections that you may need unblocked for a game or application. This process of opening a port is normally called a port forward.

In this guide we will walk you through each of the following steps:

Setup a static IP address on the computer or device you want to forward these ports to.
Login to your Motorola SBG6580 router.
Navigate to the port forwarding section.
- Click the Advanced link.
- Click on Forwarding.
Create a port forward.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.

Use a VPN Instead

Step 2

It is time to login to the Motorola SBG6580 router. This router has a web interface so you need to login using a web browser. It does not matter which browser you decide to use just pick your favorite. Some common options are:

Chrome
Internet Explorer
Safari
Opera

After picking your favorite browser and opening it up, locate the address bar. It looks a lot like this:

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.

The default Motorola SBG6580 IP Address is: 192.168.0.1

Once you have entered the router's IP Address, simply click the Enter button on the keyboard. You should see the following screen:

Enter the router's Username and Password in the appropriate boxes.

The Default Motorola SBG6580 Router Username is: admin
The Default Motorola SBG6580 Router Password is: motorola

Enter your username and password, and then click the Login button to log in to your Motorola SBG6580 router.

Having Trouble?

This is a common place to get stuck. Here are a few different things you can try:

First, we recommend trying other Motorola usernames and passwords. It is quite possible you have a slightly different firmware version with a different username and/or password. Check out our list of Default Motorola Router Passwords here.

Step 3

This third step is about finding the port forwarding section of the router. To show you how to do that, we start on the Status page.

From this page, click the Advanced option at the top of the page.
The menu on the left changes, select the option of Forwarding.

Step 4

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

TCP Ports: 3074

UDP Ports: 3074

Enter the IP address of the device that you want to forward ports to into the Local IP Adr box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network.

If you are forwarding a range of ports separated by a hyphen then enter the lowest number of that range into the Start Port box and the highest number of that range into the End Port box. If you are only forwarding a single port number then enter that number into both the Start Port and the End Port boxes.

From the Protocol box select the protocol for the ports that you want to forward.

Enable the Enabled checkbox by putting a check in it.

Make sure to click the Apply button at the bottom of the page when you are finished.
