Easiest Way to Forward Ports on the Sagemcom Fast 5280 Router

A Sagemcom Fast 5280 router protects your home network by blocking unwanted incoming internet connections and acting as a basic firewall. Sometimes you need to open a port in your router in order to get a good connection for a game or to use a specific device on your network. The Fast 5280 lets you choose the applications that are allowed to connect through an open port. By opening a port in your router you allow a specific application or game to send data from the internet to your home network.

The following steps will show you how to open ports on the Sagemcom Fast 5280 router:

1. Set up a static IP address on the device or computer you are forwarding these ports to.
2. Login to your Sagemcom Fast 5280 router.
3. Make your way to the Port Forwarding section of the Sagemcom Fast 5280 router.
   • Click Access Control.
   • Click on the Port Forwarding tab at the top of the screen.
4. Create a Port Forwarding entry.

Step 1 - Setup A Static IP Address

Set up a static IP address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This is an important step that keeps your ports open even after a reboot, power outage, or another type of device or router disconnect.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2 - Login To Your Sagemcom Router

The Sagemcom Fast 5280 router uses a web interface to display router settings. In order to login to the Sagemcom Fast 5280 router you need to use a web browser.

Open your favorite web browser. If you don't have a favorite or are not sure what this means, open up Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. If you are already in a browser window, go ahead and open up a new tab.

Find the address bar in your browser window. This is usually found at the top of the page, like in the image below.

Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your web browser and type in your router's IP address.

The Sagemcom Fast 5280 router's default IP address is: 192.168.1.1

Once you have finished entering your router's IP address into the address bar, click the enter button on your keyboard. A box similar to the one below should appear.

Enter the username and password for your Sagemcom Fast 5280 router. Note: If you have changed these numbers in the past, you will need to enter in the those values.

• The default Sagemcom Fast 5280 Router Password is: admin

Once you have entered your username and password, remember to click the Login button to login to your Sagemcom Fast 5280 router.

Step 3 - Find The Port Forwarding Section

You should be on the home page of your Sagemcom Fast 5280 router once you have successfully logged in. Find the Port Forwarding section of your router.

• Click on Access Control.
• Click the Port Forwarding tab at the top of the screen.

You should now be on a page called Port Forwarding.

Step 4 - Create A Port Forward Entry

Opening a port to a specific device may solve problems that you are having on your network. Make sure that it is necessary though, before opening a port, because you are effectively creating a pinhole in the firewall portion of your router that could lead to malicious traffic on your network. The risk is exceedingly low, though, so don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it.

Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:

• TCP Ports: 3074
• UDP Ports: 3074

1. Put a name for this forward in the Custom Service Name box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter, so pick something that has meaning to you.

2. Make the Other selection in the Service drop-down list.

3. Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Protocol dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise, select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP, but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.

4. Leave External Host blank.

5. You can enter either a single number or a range of numbers in the External Port box. If you are forwarding a single port number, you can enter it into the External Port box. To forward a range of ports, you can enter the lowest number of that range into the External Port box, followed by a hyphen, followed by the largest number. An example would look like this: 1000-2000.

6. Enter the exact same values that you put in the External Port box, into the Internal Port box.

7. Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to into the Internal Host box. It is possible to forward a port to the IP address of your computer or to the IP address of a specific device on your internal network.

8. To apply these changes, remember to click the Add button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished.
