Your Sonicwall TZ-210 router protects your home network by limiting incoming connections from the internet. Sometimes it is necessary to unblock some of those connections like when you want to create a direct connection for gaming, use a specific application, or set up a new device on your network. This process is called forwarding or opening a port. In your Sonicwall TZ-210 router you many need to open a port, which means assigning a port number or set of port numbers to a specific IP address. This routes the incoming data to the correct device on your network.

To open a port in your Sonicwall TZ-210 router, follow these important steps:

  1. Set up a static IP address on the computer or device that you are forwarding ports to.
  2. Login to your Sonicwall TZ-210 router.
  3. Make your way to the Port Forwarding section of the Sonicwall TZ-210 router.
    • Find the Network tab at the left of the screen and click on it.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Create A Port Forward

Make sure that you must open a port in your router before doing so since this will allow data to come through the firewall portion of your router to a specific device. It is possible that this could lead to malicious traffic on your network. However, don't let this warning stop you from making this change if you need it because the risk is very low.

port forwarding
This is the port forwarding page from your Sonicwall router.
  1. Under Services click the Add button to create a new custom service.
  2. Create a name for this forward and type it into the Name box. Since the name does not have an effect on the functionality of the forward, choose a name that will help you remember why the forward was created.
  3. Select the protocol type of the ports that you are forwarding from the Protocol dropdown box. If your router has the option of Both, then go ahead and select that. Otherwise, select either TCP or UDP as needed. If you need to forward a port for both TCP and UDP, but your router does not have Both, then you will need to create two entries.
  4. To forward a single port, enter the port number into the Port Start and the Port End boxes. To forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number in the range into the Port Start box. Then enter the highest number in the range into the Port End box.
  5. Click the Add button to save this custom service.
  6. Now under Service Groups click the Add Group button. We are going to bind this service that you just created to a network device.
  7. Choose the service that you created using the Name that you made up.
  8. Choose the device on your network that you want to forward this service to.
  9. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page when you are completely finished to apply these changes.
