Your TP-Link TL-WR810N router uses a firewall to help protect your home network from unwanted malicious threats from the Internet. The firewall does this by blocking all connections unless specified otherwise. When you have a program or game that doesn't run as smoothly as it should you might need some of these blocked connections opened for it. This process of unblocking connections or opening ports is frequently called a port forward.
In this guide we will be showing you exactly how to setup a port forward. We will walk you through each of the following steps:
- Setting up a static IP address on the device you plan on forwarding these ports to.
- Logging into the TP-Link TL-WR810N router.
- Navigating to the port forwarding section of the router.
- Create a port forward entry.

Step 1
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
Use a VPN Instead
Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

Step 2
Now that you have finished setting up a static IP address on the device you want these ports forwarded to, your next step is to login to the TP-Link TL-WR810N router. This is done by first opening up a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. (It doesn't matter what browser you decide to use).
Once the web browser is opened, find the address bar. This is typically at the top of the page:
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router's IP address.
The default TP-Link TL-WR810N IP Address is: 192.168.0.1
If you have changed the router's IP address in the past, then you need to enter that value into the address bar. If you have forgotten what you changed the IP address to, then use this How To Find Your Router's IP Address guide to help you recover it.
Once you have finished entering the router's IP address into the address bar, just click the Enter key on your keyboard. If all goes as it should have you will see a login screen:
Enter the username and password for the TP-Link TL-WR810N router here. Then press the Enter key or click the green Login button.
- The Default TP-Link TL-WR810N Router Username is: admin
- The Default TP-Link TL-WR810N Router Password is: password
Can't Login?
If you find you are stuck, don't panic. There are several things you can do try:
- We always recommend that you first try other TP-Link password/username combinations. If your router is a different firmware version then there is a possibility that the username and password are different. Here is our list of Default TP-Link Router Passwords.
- If that did not work it is because you changed the username and password (always a good idea) and have forgotten it (not so good). Can you try to crack your own password? Give it a few guesses. Even better use our Find Password App. Our find password app does the guessing for you. It cracks the password for you. Learn more about it on this Router Password Cracker page.
- As a final method to gain access to your router you can do a hard reset to set everything back to factory defaults. You will then use the defaults to gain access. NOTE: Do not reset your router until you have tried our other troubleshooting options. Everything is erased in your router. A full reconfiguration of your router will need to be done.
Step 3
By now you should be logged into the TP-Link TL-WR810N router. It is time to find the port forwarding section of the router interface. To do this we begin on the Status page:
Click the option of Forwarding in the left sidebar.
Then under that pick the option of Virtual Servers.
You should now see a page like the one above. Click the link in the center section of the page labeled Add New...
Step 4
Here are the ports to forward for Xbox Live:
- TCP Ports: 3074
- UDP Ports: 3074

Enter the port to forward into the Service Port and the Internal Port boxes.
Enter the IP address that you are forwarding ports to in the IP Address box. This is either the IP address of a computer or the IP address of another device on your network.
From the Protocol box select the protocol for the ports that you want to forward.
Choose Enabled from the Status dropdown box.
When you are finished, click the Save button.
Don't forget to click the Save button when you are finished.
Check Your Ports
It is always a good idea to check your ports instead of simply assuming they forwarded properly. In order to help you check your ports we have a Open Port Checker.
